- Field Maintenance Supervisor, Heavy Equipment
Description
Hoover Construction is seeking an experienced heavy equipment professional to support both shop and field operations by diagnosing equipment problems, guiding repair strategy, and helping oversee the quality and efficiency of field service work.
This role is ideal for someone with deep hands-on experience with heavy construction equipment who enjoys troubleshooting complex issues, mentoring technicians, and helping ensure repairs are completed correctly and efficiently. The position works closely with mechanics, field supervisors, and the equipment manager to keep our fleet operating reliably and minimize downtime.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues on heavy construction equipment
- Determine root causes of equipment failures and guide repair strategy
- Support both shop mechanics and field technicians with troubleshooting and repair planning
- Inspect equipment in the shop and in the field to identify developing problems before failure occurs
- Assist in planning and prioritizing repairs based on equipment condition and operational needs
- Respond to equipment issues on active job sites and help return machines to service efficiently
- Maintain clear records of equipment inspections, conditions, and recommended repairs
Field Technician Oversight
- Provide technical leadership and support to field service technicians
- Assist in scheduling field repairs and prioritizing service calls
- Review technician repair work to ensure quality and efficiency
- Review and approve field technician timecards and work documentation
- Help maintain consistent repair standards and best practices across field maintenance operations
Equipment You'll Work With
Our fleet includes excavators, dozers, haul trucks, drills, crushing equipment, and other heavy construction equipment used in large earthmoving and civil construction operations.

Requirements
- Extensive hands-on experience working on heavy construction equipment
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills for mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems
- Ability to evaluate equipment condition and forecast potential repair needs
- Experience supporting both shop and field maintenance operations
- Ability to lead, guide, and support field technicians
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to prioritize multiple equipment issues in a fast-paced construction environment
- Valid driver's license with a safe driving record
- CDL helpful but not required
- Technical training or trade education preferred
