The Worker Justice Center of New York pursues justice for those denied human rights, with a focus on agricultural workers and other workers in low-wage industries, through legal representation, community empowerment and advocacy for institutional change. The organization is currently seeking to hire a full-time Communications Coordinator to coordinate and grow WJCNY’s online presence, drive content development in support of our programming, and to expand WJCNY’s influence and visibility to the public.

Job Title: Communications Coordinator (non-exempt)

Working Hours: 35 hours per week  

Location: This position may be based in either our Rochester or Kingston, NY offices. Remote work arrangements are available to accommodate health and safety needs while Covid-19 remains a serious threat. Occasional travel throughout the state is expected using WJCNY-owned vehicles.

Compensation/Benefits: Salary is based upon a union-negotiated scale which begins at $38,000 per year (without an associate’s or bachelor’s degree) and increases based on education, experience (including unpaid intern or volunteer work experience) and qualifications. WJCNY offers a generous comprehensive benefit package, including employer-paid family health and dental insurance, generous paid sick and vacation time, 14 paid holidays, 12 weeks of fully paid family leave, group life insurance, a 401(k)-retirement plan and flexible scheduling.

Job Description:  

  • Manage WJCNY’s website and social media accounts to ensure fresh and timely content and increase audience engagement.
  • Develop, design, and curate engaging written and audio-visual content for WJCNY’s social media accounts, website, published reports, and other promotional materials.
  • Work with program staff to develop client stories and program content to uplift work.
  • Manage projects with paid and volunteer designers, illustrators, animators, and videographers on an as-needed basis.
  • Write press releases and coordinate media to increase coverage of worker rights’ issues and elevate WJCNY’s work to the general public.
  • Coordinate and draft communications (emails, letters, brochures, press releases, annual reports, and newsletters) to WJCNY stakeholders to highlight organizational achievements and cultivate support for our work.
  • Devise and implement strategies to convert online followers to donors and coordinate social media fundraising drives.
  • Support the creation of outreach flyers, presentations and educational materials, brochures, digital actions and toolkits.
  • Monitor analytics and create reports detailing impacts of communication strategies.
  • Participation in organization-wide activities, events, fundraisers, trainings, and committees.



  • At least 3 years’ experience working in a communications role, preferably in nonprofit

communications, public relations or marketing.

  • Graphic design experience; familiarity working with Canva and Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Strong copywriting and editing skills.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and coordination skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and re-prioritize as needed.
  • Desire to take full ownership of assigned projects and can work independently.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated commitment to workers’ rights, immigrant rights, or other relevant social justice initiatives. 
  • Verbal and written proficiency in Spanish is required, fluency is preferred. Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Valid driver’s license (car not required). 
  • Experience with Wordpress.
  • Experience with Nation Builder a plus (but not required).
