POSITION SUMMARY
Under general direction of the Facilities Manager, the Aquatics Coordinator oversees the aquatics programs, recreational activities, aquatic facility operations and maintenance, and provides supervisory and administrative work for the Aquatics staff including Aquatics Assistant Coordinator, Head Lifeguards, Swim Instructors, and Lifeguards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate, manage, and lead all aquatics operations and maintenance (including annual shutdown), pool area improvements, and capital improvement projects.
- Independently manages the recruitment, training, development, and disciplinary conversations for the Aquatics Department.
- Analyzes, forecasts, prepares, and monitors budgets and financial information with the assistance of the Facilities Manager.
- Make program-specific operational and capital purchases. Manage equipment and supply inventory, including safety inspections, research, analysis, and recommendations.
- Analyzes trends and evaluates changing community needs and makes recommendations to improve operations and expand program participation.
- Manages the daily operations, cleanliness, and maintenance of the pool.
- Reviews, inspects, and ensures routine maintenance for facilities, equipment, and operations for safety hazards and other potential problems.
- Maintains risk management standards to include certification, monthly in-service training, lifeguard observations, skills and scenario assessments, and accident/incident report tracking.
- Coordinate external audit in conjunction with StarGuard Elite requirements
- Complete all required safety trainings in a timely manner and ensure staff compliance.
- Coordinates and/or instructs various classes including swim lessons, Lifeguard and WSI trainings, CPR, AED and First Aid classes for patrons and District employees along with program registrations.
- Conducts staff meetings, oversees monthly in-service trainings and skills assessments.
- Creates and edits program area information for CVPRD website, promotional materials, and registration software.
- Promote programs utilizing outreach, engagement, and promotion to increase community interest.
- Communicates openly and effectively with supervisors, co-workers, staff, participants, parents, volunteers, contractors, and other community members.
- Provides excellent customer service in a timely manner.
- Assists with special projects and special events on behalf of the District as needed and assigned.
- Models appropriate behaviors and handles complaints and disciplinary problems involving patrons or staff in a professional manner and adhering to district policies and procedures.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Parks and Recreation, Physical Education, Liberal Arts, or closely related field and/or equivalent combination of related education and experience
- Two years of staff management and aquatics programming
- StarGuard Elite Lifeguard Instructor certification (Or the ability to become certified in 90 days)
- Water Safety Instructor Trainer Certification (WSIT)
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO)
